An Explanation of Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice occurs when a health care professional (e.g. doctor, physician, surgeon, etc.) acts in a negligent manner while treating a medical condition. Medical malpractice cases arise when a patient has been injured through improper action/lack of action, of a health care professional or medical facility. In certain circles it is also known as “med mal”.

Note: In many states, other licensed medical professionals such as chiropractors, nurses, therapists, and psychologists, may also be sued for malpractice. They may be sued for negligently breaching their respective professional duties owed to the patient.
